ENGLEWOOD— A new 7,900-square-foot health center opens Tuesday in Englewood.
The Heartland Alliance Health Englewood Health Center, at 5501 S. Halsted St., will provide residents with primary medical, substance abuse treatment, mental health and psychiatric services and insurance assistance. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling 773-275- 2586 and walk-ins are welcome.
The center will have 10 exam rooms, a triage room and a pharmacy. The building will also have showers and laundry to support those who are either homeless or “vulnerably housed,” the agency says.
“As a community health organization, we are dedicated to transforming care for the most vulnerable, particularly people experiencing homelessness, mental illness, substance use issues or struggling with multiple chronic illnesses, improving health for all, and for the well-being of our community,” the agency said in a statement.
Heartland Alliance’s healthcare work in Englewood began 20 years ago with a food pantry for those living with HIV/AIDs. In 2016, the organization developed a “pop-up” health center and medical outreach team, dedicated to providing on-sight healthcare services to 15 local shelters in Chicago’s south side.
Heartland Alliance Health provides insurance assistance and counseling.
